Tour de France – Stage 11 Preview

It’s time for the first of 2 individual time-trials.This one is 33km from Avranches to Mont-Saint-Michel and is quite flat. It’s going to be about 28 degrees and windy. We have a 14mph North-Easternly wind.

Screen Shot 2013-07-09 at 18.48.41As you can see that means a crosswind for most of the course. This means that to do well here you need to be a big, strong rider.

Of course,Tony Martin should win this by ease so we are looking at the podium places and the battle between the GC riders.

Chris Froome is 2nd favourite with the bookies and in a similar TT in the Dauphine he finished 3rd.That day Castroviejo of Movistar finished 4th,Kwiatkowski 5th,Boasson Hagen 6th and Porte 7th.

EBH is 1.85m and 75kg compared to Froome’s 1.86m and rumoured 66kg in the Tour,Castroviejo is 1.68m and 64kg,Kwiatkowski is 1.76m and 68kg and Porte is 1.72m and 62kg.

Boasson Hagen has been getting better in time-trials and recently won the Norwegian TT championship. He is currently 200/1 with some bookies and didn’t contest the sprint today either,he is my dark horse for stage 11,or the podium at least.

Sylvain Chavanel is very inconsistent when it comes to TTs so shouldn’t be relied upon.

The wind is to become stronger during the day,so that should favour an early starter.Tuft,Westra and Meyer are out very early but I don’t think they have the quality to threaten the field.Westra will be tired after his breakaway today and Tuft had a little crash near the end, although he is big and strong so can’t be discounted.

Of the GC riders I would expect a very strong performance from Froome,Quintana,Peraud,Mollema,Evans and Rogers but have massive concerns about Nieve,Martin and Rodriguez. Most riders have lost 2 minutes to Froome already so they don’t want to be 5 minutes down before entering the Alps.

Prediction time …

2.Boasson Hagen
