It’s time trial time!
It’s 16.1km and not the steepest of climbs, averaging around 3% for the whole stage. The main part of the climb is more like 4-5%,this still makes it quite a gentle mountain time trial.
Van Garderen is usually very good at this discipline, although he can be prone to a poor day(Tour de Suisse).
He has a lead of 4 seconds to teammate Mathias Frank, and this should be plenty. He’s 30 seconds clear of Acevedo and 40 clear of Danielson.
Acevedo lost nearly 3 minutes in the Tour of California ITT but that was over 30km and the climb was only at the very end,he should be much more competitive today.I backed him at 40/1 each way at the beginning of the race and I really hope he can hold on to his podium place.
Damiano Caruso(my 125/1 shot) is 1’58 down and he can go really well in these conditions, having finished 3rd at the Giro mountain time trial, but he’s left himself far too much time to make up.
I would imagine that TJ will win the stage and GC and think that Frank will fall away leaving Danielson and Acevedo 2nd and 3rd.
I just hope Acevedo doesn’t end up in 4th!
