The Burgos race provides an excellent opportunity for riders to get used to Spanish conditions before the Vuelta.
It is a very important tool in helping to predict riders that will go well in the Vuelta.
In 2010,Mosquera and Nibali finished 2nd and 3rd in Burgos.Nibali won the Vuelta, with Mosquera 2nd.
In 2011,Moreno and Cobo finished 2nd and 3rd in Burgos.Cobo won the Vuelta, with Moreno finishing 9th.Also that year,Nieve finished 10th in both.
In 2012,Moreno won Burgos,Gesink was 6th and Anton 9th and in the Vuelta Moreno was 5th,Gesink 6th and Anton 9th.
In the 2013 Vuelta a Burgos,Arroyo was 2nd,Nibali 3rd,Cardoso 5th,Landa 6th,Sanchez 8th and Basso 10th.All these riders are doing the Vuelta.
Nibali will be very pleased with the similarities with 2010 when he went on to win the Vuleta. The others mentioned should all go well in the Vuelta and should be fighting for a top 10 finish.
I have backed Arroyo(6/4) and Landa(9/1) for the top 10 and have Basso(5/1) for the top 3 along with Nibali(10/3) for the overall victory.
Most people have been focussed on the link between the Tour and Vuelta or the Giro and Vuelta and seem to have forgotten this important link!
