The day was set for Phil S to go and smash his 4 hour target and hopefully claim a medal to show the kids.
The massive puddles and generally wet conditions went against Phil as he applied the Bradley Wiggins school of descending.
This meant that despite breaking the 4 hour mark(3:45:49),Phil ended up in 15th position. He even failed in an attempt to get the medal boundaries changed due to poor light!
On the plus side,he did burn off 3359 calories. This was ruined with a post-race visit to the chip shop!
Despite his position Phil was happy to break 4 hours and had sore legs in the morning.
15th out of 174 marks progress for the good Doctor and with the impending arrival of his new bike, the only way is up!
Sorry about the lack of pictures but the race wasn’t broadcast on British TV.
Update – Friday 30th August
After a very late DQ the good doctor was promoted to 14th and a successful moan to the officials resulted in the medal boundaries being altered and Phil was awarded a silver medal.Turns out to be a rather good day!
