Sadly it’s the penultimate race of the year,in Italy. The riders travel 200km from Modena to San Luca.

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 21.51.20The race is different from 2012 as it starts on Modena instead of Bologna.

The 1st climb is Rocca di Rofeno but a new climb for the race is just after as the peloton approach the GPM point, the Saint Lucia climb is very hard with a gradient of 10%.

After that it’s the same as last year with the circuit in San Luca and the riders having to tackle the very challenging climb 5 times.

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 22.22.57The climb is just over 2km at an average of 11%,but with sections of 18%.Take a look at what happened last year.

Quintana isn’t riding this year but Pellizotti,Pozzovivo and Rabottini are.

Lampre are talking up their Croatian rider Durasek.

“Our aim is to find a team unity that could enhance the qualities of the captains – sport director Mani explained – Ulissi and Scarponi showed recently that their condition is very good, but pay attention to Durasek too, who could be very competitive in Giro dell’Emilia”.

Durasek is available at 150/1,so I’ve backed him each way.

If you follow my blog, you’ll know that I’m a massive fan of Ulissi and have been championing him in recent weeks. He won on Thursday but I think this could be one race too many for him and that is why Lampre might just look to Durasek.

Pozzovivo didn’t ride on Thursday, because of the crash he had on Sunday. He was having difficulty with his arms and that is enough to put some doubt into my mind.

I think the favourite should be Franco Pellizotti. His form has been excellent and Androni are still leading the Italian Cup,and they really want to win this competition.

He was 4th on Thursday,8th at Lombardia,10th at Milano-Torino and 5th at the GP Industria and Commercio di Prato.

He was excellent here last year and think that it’s his time to win.

He is available at a very generous 12/1.

I’ll be very interested to see how Cannondale’s Davide Villella performs, after an excellent 3rd on Thursday. This course might even suit him more!

Some people are talking about Cunego, but I don’t have any trust in his skills, anymore.

AG2R have 19 year old,Pierre-Roger Latour riding. He was 4th in the baby Lombardi and 20th on Thursday,I look forward to seeing how he copes.

Bongiorno of Bardiani really fancies this race but they might look to Pirazzi.

Vini Fantini have a number of cards to play:Rabottini,Taborre and Finetto. All are capable but Rabottini has struggled to find the form of 2012,while Finetto is riding very well.

Team Colombia will look again to Duarte and Atapuma but Duarte disappointed on Thursday, although he should find the parcours here more suitable to his skills.

Has to be Pellizotti for me but Pozzovivo will be very close,if fit.The battle for 3rd should be very interesting and look down the top 10 for some stars of the future.

Or will Ulissi win again?
