We arrive at the last race of the year in Italy.
The race remains unchanged from 2012 with 10 circuits in Monteveglio.
You should have noticed the riders are able to go up the climb very quickly and in the big ring.
The 7km of flat before the finish means that it’s very difficult to attack on the climb and stay away but you do need teammates to help bring back the breaks.
Although they do the climb 10 times,it’s not hard enough to make a massive difference and I think that we’ll see a sprint finish, although the race can become very tactical and sprinters need teammates to help.
I can’t see Nicki Sorensen defending his title and doubt any of his teammates will win.
Davide Villella of Cannondale is on fire but don’t think the finish suits him.
Astana have Guardini riding. He is off form but is still a fast sprinter,if he stays with the peloton.
AG2R have Pozzovivo and Latour but their best chance will be Belletti,2nd here in 2011.
Bardiani bring a whole host of riders that can sprint well:Modolo,Coledan,Colbrelli and Battaglin.I can’t see them not being in the mix, come the end of the race.
Vini Fantini have Finetto and Rabottini.Finetto hasn’t left the top 7 in the last 3 races.
Androni have Rubiano and Chiarini.
Team Colombia have Duarte and Duque.
Meridiana have Sinkewitz but he’ll have to go on the climb, they also have Enrico Rossi for a sprint.
Ceramica have Mucelli and Utensilnord have Marco Samparella.
Lampre have the man of the moment Diego Ulissi. Can he complete a hat-trick of wins?
As I think it’ll be a sprint I can narrow the field down a fair bit.I think the contenders will be:
Belletti,Rubiano,Modolo,Colbrelli,Duque,Zamparella and Rossi.
Colbrelli was very fast, finishing 2nd at the Tour of Almaty and I think he’ll go one better tomorrow. That being said,he’ll only get the chance if Modolo doesn’t make it to the end.If Modolo is there,he’ll win.
