Riders to Watch in 2014 – Heiner Rodrigo Parra

Heiner Rodrigo Parra

The tiny 22 year old Colombain is made for the mountains!

He is very small and thin, perfect for the high mountains. He is yet another talented Colombian and joins many of his countrymen in Europe.

In 2013,he was riding for the 4-72 Colombia squad, and took part in quite a few races in France. He won stage 3 of Ronde de l’Isard under 23 race and the KOM jersey.

He was 2nd on stage 5 of Tour Alsace and finished 5th on the GC.

He was 12th in Spanish 1 day race, Memorial Ricardo Otxoa, and a steady 22nd in the Tour de l’Ain, against some big names.

He performed well in the Tour de l’Avenir, finishing 7th on GC and 3rd in the KOM category.

These results earned him a move to Caja Rural. The small Spanish team is perfect for the next stage in his development and he will look to feature heavily in stage races that feature hard climbs, like the Tour of the Basque Country.

He will find it hard to make their Vuelta Espana squad, but it should be a goal of his as it’s perfectly suited to his characteristics.
