2024 Vuelta a Andalucia New Stage 1 Preview

Alcaudete 5km ITT

A little context. The original race was cancelled as the Guardia Civil were needed to police farmer protests, they didn’t have enough left for the race. This is the 2nd week of protests, due to the farmers being very unhappy with the EU. They must adhere to strict rules, but non-EU farmers don’t, and their products are coming into the market at a cheaper price. Farming is a big part of life down in the south of Spain, and the weather already makes it a very hard living, I’m in full support of them. If you were one of those people complaining that the first two stages were cancelled, then shame on you, there’s much more important things in life.

The organisers, police and local authorities have managed to come up with three stages that can go ahead, hats off to them as it couldn’t have been easy. The first stage is now a 5km ITT, using the final 1.5km from Thursday’s original stage.
