Summer’s here and thoughts turn to the Tour de France. Just about everyone (except Mads Pedersen) has spent recent weeks up at altitude and rouleurs have dropped a few kilos, the Dauphiné is where we start to see these riders climb above what is normally possible. If I think back, Naesen and Valgren stick out in terms of incredible climbing performances in this race, this is when rouleurs turn into climbing domestiques, there’s a spot at the Tour de France to fight for. Okay, time to think about the race. Evenepoel and Roglič are here, but with questions about current shape due to their horrendous crash in the Basque Country. The race is a nice mix of stages, with the weekend being for the GC men.
