The race will obviously be a sad affair as everyone reflects on the loss of Gino Mäder. This talented young man died during last year’s race, crashing on a descent. His death hit the peloton hard, his parents showed incredible courage to be at the subsequent stages. The race will honour Gino with a special prize for the rider who is first over the highest point in the race. This is a nice gesture by the organisers, it’s a way of ensuring we remember Gino, it’s important we continue to talk about him and what an incredible human he was.
