The first of the big GC days, it’s a 29km TTT which contains fewer climbing metres than last year. The organisers have stuck with the rule where each rider gets their own individual time, but the team get the time of the 1st rider across the line, rather than the 4th which is normally the rule. This allows teams to try out different tactics, burning through riders faster than usual and just leaving a couple for the finale. The final climb is 500m at 9%, and as there’s only 4km to go from the crest, expect to see the best climbers in each squad released at this point, but it would still be helpful for the team leader to have at least one rider to stay with them.
