The wind did blow in the opening stage, and we found out that none of the GC riders can ride an echelon! It was another episode of the Jan Christen Show, this guy is box office. He crashed, unluckily just before the first echelon was formed, then put his team to work in the chase. He then crashed again, getting distance by over 1 minute to the peloton. We caught a brief glimpse of him trying to draft behind a car claiming he was seeking medical assistance for a cut to his elbow. He then disappeared from the TV cameras, only to reappear a short time later just about to get back to the peloton, aided by several teammates. After the stage, he was hit by a 20s penalty, I think he can count himself rather fortunate, he’ll be hoping for much better luck throughout the rest of the race.
